Where do you find your ideas?

I don't find ideas. Ideas find me. I'll be walking along, just looking around, and BAM—an idea shows up, looking for attention. I always give ideas my attention, and a lot of times those ideas end up in my writing. â€‹

Why do you write?

I write because the stories in my head are like persistent, adorable puppies that head-butt me if I ignore them. My goal is to create stories that engage, entertain, and deliver their message via harmonica, not sledgehammer.

What is your writing process?

My writing process is pure chaos. An idea finds me, I come up with a beginning and an ending, and then I just write random scenes until the story unfolds. I'm under no illusion that I'm in control at all, and I'm always surprised by what my characters do and say. I can't tell you how many times a character acts a fool and I yell "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?" As if the character is the one doing the typing. Eventually I have enough scenes to write the connective tissue, and then I edit and revise until I want to go to sleep for six months. And then, much to my surprise, the book is done.
